Narrative of the Event

On March 7, 2002, Shi’a Dr. Muzaffar Sammoon, Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of the X-ray Department of Lyari General Hospital, was gunned down when unidentified terrorists ambushed his car.

Sources and witnesses said that Dr. Sammoon, a resident of Shah Baig Lanes, was returning home in his car (ABE-252) after dropping his children off at their school. On the way, he stopped at a bakery when three armed assailants came near the victim and opened fire near the Ali Hotel.

He sustained multiple bullets and was rushed to the Civil Hospital in serious condition, where doctors pronounced him dead. Sammoon, sources further said, was the father of six and had a good reputation in the area. He was a well-known social worker and ran several welfare projects.
