On Thursday, July 26, 2001, Shaukat Raza Mirza, the managing director of Pakistan State Oil, and his driver were fatally shot by two masked assailants in Clifton around 8:45 a.m. Mirza was en route to the PSO House when the attackers intercepted his car at the Chaudhry Khaliquzzaman Road-Chartered Accountant Avenue intersection, opening fire. Despite the driver’s attempt to accelerate, the assailants pursued, killing Mirza and injuring the driver. The car rolled for about 70 meters before halting. The attackers fled, and four suspects from Mominabad, Orangi Town, later confessed to the killing, including that of Shaukat Mirza.
