Narrative of the Event
On Thursday May 4, 2023, 6 Shia Muslims including 4 teachers and two lower staff in a shooting at a school northwestern Pakistan.
According to media reports incident occurred in the Parachinar area of Kurram tribal district near the border with Afghanistan.
“The area is off limits to journalists and human rights activists, which makes it difficult to verify facts independently.”, reported Reuters, an American News Agency.
The tribal district has a majority Shi’ite population who are often attacked by Sunni militant groups from the local Taliban movement. Sunni militants regard Shi’ites as heretics.
“Some unknown gunmen stormed the staff room of Teri Mengal High School in the Upper Kurram tribal district in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and shot dead six people including 4 teachers and 2 lower staff on exam duty”, wrote website Herald Deccan Herald while referring the District Kurram Police.
“However, the incidents come just two days after Pakistani security forces killed Abdul Jabar Shah, a notorious Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) commander and two others and made several key arrests in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.”, added more HD.
