Narrative of the Event
On 23 March 2023, a Shia Muslim Aslam Baloch, son of Khadim Hussain of the Ghonsar area of Parova tehsil, was attacked by unknown motorcyclists at Nawab Adda in Dera Ismail Khan city when he was going on a motorcycle along with his wife. He was seriously injured in the firing and immediately shifted to the district headquarters hospital. Later he was referred to Multan, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way. The victim’s wife escaped the attack.
Aslam Baloch was a graduate of the Shia religious seminary at Kotli Imam Hussain, D.I. Khan.
According to the police report, Aslam Baloch was the 30th victim of target killing in his family.
Note: The English newspaper ‘daily Dawn’ reported the incident but didn’t mention the “Shia-Muslim” identity of the victim of target killing on sectarian grounds. The same obfuscation was seen in the reporting of the incident by international media because it had picked up the said news from Pakistan’s mainstream English press.
