In the stark and disconcerting context of the ongoing Shia Genocide in Pakistan, a chilling development has unfolded, casting a foreboding shadow over the political landscape, particularly as the nation approaches the pivotal general election in 2024.
The banned and notorious group Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat (ASWJ), deeply implicated in the systematic persecution of Shia Muslims, has managed to navigate the bureaucratic labyrinth and successfully secured registration with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The group has done so by adopting the deceptive guise of the Pakistan Rah Haq Party. This revelation, meticulously brought to light by a comprehensive report from Dawn Karachi on December 27, 2023, goes beyond mere bureaucratic maneuvering. It unveils a carefully orchestrated campaign led by prominent ASWJ leaders that not only perpetuates but actively fuels the ongoing persecution and genocide of Shia Muslims.
The roster of leaders orchestrating this unsettling transformation reads like a disturbing narrative. Maulvi Aurangzeb Farooqui, currently serving as the Central General Secretary of Ahlul-Sunnat Wal-Jamaat/Sipah Sahaba Pakistan; Maulvi Muhammad Ahmad Ludhianwi, occupying the pivotal role of Central Head of Ahlul-Sunnah Wal-Jamaat; Muawiya Azam, the son of Azam Tariq; and Masroor Haqnawaz Jhangvi, have boldly submitted their nomination papers, aligning themselves unabashedly with the controversial Pakistan Rah Haq Party.
Unmistakably, clandestine negotiations have unfolded between ASWJ leaders and various political entities, spanning the spectrum from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz to the Grand Democratic Alliance and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam. These delicate deliberations revolve around the intricate calibration of seat adjustments, a strategic maneuver aimed at ensuring robust representation for ASWJ leadership within both the National Assembly and provincial assemblies.
From a critical and analytical standpoint, it is contended that the overarching objective of Sipah Sahaba Pakistan goes beyond mere electoral representation. More alarmingly, it encompasses the promotion and advocacy for punitive and discriminatory legislation directed explicitly against the beleaguered Shia Muslim community.
The potential electoral triumph of select ASWJ leaders looms as a harbinger of increased repressive measures against the Shia community, presenting a formidable challenge for mainstream political entities that are now compelled to grapple with the ominous consequences.
Simultaneously, alongside their political ambitions, there exists a chilling prospect of the deployment of death squads by Ahlus Sunnat Wal Jamaat to incite religious violence. A stark illustration of this is the targeted assassination incident in Korangi, Karachi, on December 26, 2023. This incident, involving the patriarch of JK president Muhammad Saleem, an active ASWJ activist, holds grave significance within the complex political and communal landscape under the dominion of Aurangzeb Farooqui. The latter, with aspirations to transition from this regional stronghold to ascendancy within either the National Assembly or the Sindh Assembly, adds another layer of complexity to an already dire situation.
As Pakistan braces itself for the 2024 general election, the unfolding scenario demands not only vigilant observation but also a collective and resolute response to safeguard the rights and safety of the Shia Muslim community amidst this disturbing metamorphosis of political forces.
