According to the FIR No. 294/2023 that was filed, the complainant, Hafiz Abdul Karim Chandio, asserts that Muhammad Nawaz Khoso, a resident of Nizamani Village in the district of Khairpur in the province of Sindh, posted a video on his Facebook wall that was offensive to the Companions of the Holy Prophet of Islam and that the video quickly went viral on social media. The complainant had asked for a FIR to be filed against the offenders.

A Khairpur-based journalist who spoke to ‘A’ on the condition of anonymity claimed that Muhammad Nawaz Khoso belonged to the Shi’a Muslim community of the hamlet Nizamani.

‘ Muhammad Nawaz Khoso , Accused of blasphemy  belonged to very poor Sindhi Shia family’, said ‘A’ while talking to Shia Muslim Genocide -SMG website.

Recently, the Pakistani parliament approved a bill that amends 298-A of the Pakistan Penal Code, one of the several blasphemy laws, making the penalty for insulting the holy Prophet of Islam’s companions tougher and harsher. Shi’a Muslims and other religious minorities in Pakistan have rejected the Pakistan Criminal Laws(Amendments) Act Bill 2022, also known as the Namoos-Sahaba-o-Ahle-Bayt bill, and they are calling for its repeal.
